So I was going to share a little about my early experiences in moving- and how I
learned being organized can reduce damage risk as well as save time/money.
It feels like longer than 12 years ago that first moving company hired me. But not because of how I feel physically- even though the number of moves I have
actually put my hands on, physically, is in the hundreds. I feel great physically
and moving is one of the best body strengthening jobs/exercises one
can do- if they do it right. Those hundreds of moves don’t include thousands of deliveries- single and multiple pieces of usually new furniture.
Lucky me, right?

Go back to the days of The Denver & May D&F. Remember when May D&F
bought The Denver?
That was in 1993. I was pushing 20. Same as today.
Ahem!
If you are a native, like me, you probably do remember this.
Because The Denver Dry Goods Company was established in 1879, in Denver and
that makes it Colorado history. The Denver was a retail store in Denver for over
100 years! Well here you can read about it on Wikipedia.
Well I worked for a man that bought a whole bunch of stuff from The Denver. Moving it was my job.
I moved a ton of GLASS on that “move”. There were boxes and stuff but mostly I remember just stacks
and stacks of glass used for retail shelving. Mostly clothing at that juncture for the historic department
store.
But this is what’s interesting- I liked moving that stuff!
And it made you strong. I liked moving. Probably for a lot of reasons- like I’m good at it.
And it was ready to go! Boxes packed. Nice and neat stacks of glass. Not chaotic, ½ packed kitchens,
a garage with more stuff than Home Depot-unpacked, and kids’ rooms that …
well you told them to pack, right?
I literally don’t ever remember breaking a single piece of glass on that Denver move- and I moved
hundreds of them. I’m not saying I never damage anything on a move- because I have.
All movers have. Shoot I’ve known some movers that have taken the blame for damaging something
another crew member actually damaged.

of those horse shoes, grenade type things.
At any rate I’m pushing 40 and moved basically in one form or another- off and on personally my
entire life and in a professional capacity for 20 years- oh there are other stories before the glass.
I’ve moved all kinds of stuff, hauled all kinds of stuff, lifted all kinds of stuff, worked flea markets when
I was 10 years old, and in all of my experience there is nothing more frustrating, or more time
consuming, than a poorly prepared move.

For certain professions- like moving, a license is necessary to prove
that you are meeting the requirements of the law for your industry-
and permitted to conduct business in the city, municipality, or state

You can take that license number and look up their performance
history in most states through the Better Business Bureau.

Bonded means-
Being bonded means that a bonding company has secured money
that is available to the consumer in the event they file a claim against
the company. The secured money is in the control of the state, a
bond, and not under the control of the company. Let’s say that you
hire a cleaning company and they end up stealing your Nintendo Wii.
Well, you would file a claim against the company and, after an
investigation, would be paid out by this bond.
This is slightly different but similar to what it means for an
employee to be bonded. Being bonded in that case means that a
bonding company has investigated your background and finds that
you’re trustworthy and “good” enough to insure. In general, this is
generally done when an employee has to handle large amounts of
money or handle valuable property like jewelry or art. There is a very
extensive and deep background check involved and what
the employer gets is insurance that you won’t steal. If you do, then
the bonding company pays out the amount of the theft. By being
bonded, it shows that the employee is trustworthy enough for a
bonding company to insure you up to a certain amount. Now, a
company that is bonded means that a bonding company has funds.
